BIKE FOR HAITI

But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
— isaiah 43:18-19

Pastor Guy Melton, our Founding Pastor, has had a love and passion for Haiti and its people. In 2011, he responded to God’s call to serve the people of this beautiful and resilient country and draw attention to the needs of its children and families, by developing a Bike For Haiti Oasis Church initiative and biking 1500 miles from South Florida to New York City with the goal of raising $55,000. He ultimately raised $150,000, which went directly to faith-based organizations with whom Oasis Church has directly partnered to start churches, build schools and underwrite several others, build a seminary and an orphanage, as well provide nourishment to hundreds of children and families in Haiti.

In 2012 Pastor Guy authored Lessons from the Road: Moving from the Mundane to the Miraculous, which captures his journey and lessons learned on the ride from South Florida to New York City. The book raised approximately $140,000 to further support the initiatives in Haiti. In 2016 Melton again responded to God’s call to continue raising funds for Haiti by biking 3,200 miles from San Diego, California to Hollywood, Florida. Pledges from this second bike ride totaled $500,000. These funds have gone directly towards providing wells for clean water, further developing the projects and infrastructure that began in Haiti, and providing 250,000 meals after Haiti was severely impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The larger goal of the Bike For Haiti initiative is to give $1,000,000 to Haiti over the course of 15 years.
